Columbia Sun Beach Restaurant, Akrotiri, Limassol
This new style of all day beach restaurant is located at Lady`smile beach in Akrotiri, Limassol
This project encompasses two internal bars and lounge areas, an open-air restaurant, extensive beach facilities and private event areas. The concept is based on the re-invention of a small Greek harbour village ``Limanaki`` and consist of a cluster of buildings with different outlets and purposes that share a common courtyard and outdoor shaded dining space. Guests can flow seamlessly through the various spaces and experience a different architecture and interior style from boat house driftwood interiors to market style open plan kitchens and a morrocan inspired tent lounge.
The main architectural challenge was building a structure literarily onĀ water level, with a constant exposure to the everchanging sea conditions. The entire building is made from a combination of steel structure and locally sourced stone, finely detailed with crafted carpentry and driftwood boat house details to create the interior dining and bar areas.
External spaces and courtyards take full advantage of the panoramic sea view whilst providing shelter and shade with low level boundaries to let light and air flow naturally through the open space.
The results, newly built and refurbished, are infused with the honestly natural traditional materials and construction techniques found in local Mediterranean architecture, rooting it in its site and context.
