Strovolos Town Hall, Nicosia , 1993
competition entry - second prize.
Strovolos municipality is the largest town in population in Cyprus which rapidly expanded after the invasion of Cyprus and joined Nicosia. For its equally expanding needs and local services provided to its citizens, a new Town Hall was needed to centralize all the departments that were scattered all over the Strovolos area in old and unsuited premises. In response to the rounded corner site on Strovolos avenue we based our study on a geometric grid pivoting around a cylindrical hall space. The Rotunda also houses the main Council Chamber. The auditorium and Library are open to the public after working hours with direct entrances from the parking area. The dry river bed to the west offers green views and shade to the offices.
