University of Cyprus, Halls of Residence, Aglantzia, Nicosia
competition entry, 1996
This was a competition entry for the design of the halls of residence of the newly established University of Cyprus. The south facing buildings were organised in groups of varying types of self-contained units with communal meeting, reading, dining, and social areas. Each room enjoyed natural light and ventilation with openings and skylights. The angular dividing walls made the rooms more private and individual. All rain water was collected and used. Geothermal energy and a built-in management energy conservation system safeguarded the sustainability of the project and its long-term use.
