University masterplan, Aglantzia, Nicosia
competition entry 1993
This is a first stage conceptual plan for the master plan of the newly established University of Cyprus in Nicosia. The site is on the border line with the northern occupied area and offers very little green or views. Our design avoided the use of any grid, instead land and free shapes reflecting the surrounding hill sides were used giving the campus a more relaxed and flexible layout. A small manmade lake collects all rain and storm water to help the new green landscape. Local stone widely used in the Venetian parts of old Nicosia is used to create retaining walls and as a go between material connecting the modern new buildings to the rural featurless and colourless site.
