Seafront Pavilions, Limassol, (Commended) 1993
competition entry
This is a competition for the design of several pavilions on the Limassol seafront promenade to serve the public. A tourist information pavilion, a cafeteria, a kiosk and a small restaurant are dotted about over the entire length of the busy promenade. The angular geometry of our proposal offers the flexibility of pillarless spaces and multi use while at the same time visually unifies the small buildings. By breaking down what could have been a large building into smaller pavilions the view to the sea from the town remains unobstructed. Light steel construction reduces negative environmental consequences during and after construction. The pavilions can be moved and removed in a Meccano like fashion.
