Old G.C.P. area, Nicosia, 2011
Competition
The design of the underground multi storey parking space in the grounds of the old G.C.P. Stadium confronts two very important architectural and town planning issues. The first issue deals with the harmonic relationship of the proposed building with the historic centre of the town. The second issue deals with the architectural vocabulary and character on levels of functionality, shape and construction. The public becomes a focal point and a magnet for life. The hanging gardens and waterfalls in the `canyon` are acting as enviromental filters that absorb fumes and dust while at the same time offer a cool microclimate in the immediate surrounding area. Trees, greenery, water and wind help to trap humidity and clean the polluted air.
