GSP Stadium, Nicosia (Second Prize), 1993
competition entry
The 50,000 spectator national stadium in the capital of Nicosia was designed to replace the old GSP stadium in the centre of town. The competition brief demanded a combination of Olympic sports and football stadium and a limited area of terraces to be covered with a canopy. The rather simple layout and structure became complex in order to address the security measures required to counteract football hooliganism. The master plan included the design of a new road system network as well as training grounds and largee parking areas. VIP entrances, lounges and media studios were planned below the main canopy area.
