Cyprus High Court, Nicosia, 1997
competition entry
In our design we tried to connect our scheme with the existing, listed pavilion building of Poulias. The main mall is a large hall of justice without a place to hide, it was designed to inspire people to solve their problems before entering the court chambers. The overhead bridges connect the judges` private office with the courtrooms and the elevated height reinforces their level of seniority, hierarchy and authority, while at the same time the accused emerge from the basement to the ground floor, giving them hope for mercy and fair justice.
